Long Exposure of Castle Hill Lighthouse

This is a two minute exposure of the Castle Hill Lighthouse at sunset.  Used a 10-stop neutral density filter and blended two exposures to achieve this effect. The lighthouse is located behind the Castle Hill Inn in Rhode island.

Castle Hill Lighthouse at Dusk

This is another sepia-toned version of the Castle Hill Lighthouse.  It’s a long exposure image taken at dusk, and I left the beacon at it’s natural red color.

Sunset at Castle Hill Lighthouse

Took a one-night road trip to Rhode Island to try and attempt some sunset/sunrise images of two lighthouses there.  The weather ended up providing us with some decent clouds. This is the Castle Hill Lighthouse located behind the Castle Hill Inn in Rhode Island.  The image is a long exposure processed in sepia tones.

Verrazano-Narrows Bridge at Night

On the way out of Brooklyn, the thunderstorm overhead was starting to lighten up.  So we stopped at Fort Wadsworth in Staten Island to try and capture a nice view of the Verrazano-Narrows Bridge.

Another Lightning Strike in Manhattan

Stopped by DUMBO on a Friday night and got caught in a thunderstorm.  Was able to capture this strike on a building before the rain really started coming down and drove us out.

Sunset at Montauk Point

Visited Montauk Point with my niece and nephew to try and get some sunset images of the lighthouse.  The clouds disappeared quickly and we really couldn’t line up the lighthouse with the sunset in a way I had hoped.  The only images I ended up with that I liked were a few coastline shots. Here’s

Storm Front over Manhattan

A long exposure view of an approaching storm front over Manhattan.  This image was taken from the eastern stanchion of the Manhattan Bridge looking southwest during the Memorial Day weekend.  Rain and lightning could be seen off in the distance while there were still blue skies behind us. The rain eventually reached us about 15

Lightning over Manhattan

Was lucky enough to grab this image of lightning flashing over Manhattan during a quick photoshoot on the Manhattan Bridge during the Memorial Day weekend.  Rain was starting to get heavy and there wasn’t any cover to attempt more chances.

Rain in Manhattan

With a half-day at work because of the holiday weekend, and with a thunderstorm approaching, we decided to try and grab some images of the stormy weather over Manhattan.  Took this long exposure image from the eastern stanchion of the Manhattan Bridge looking southwest. The rain was just starting to fall.

Alien Landscape at Point Judith

Something about this image made me think it looked like an alien landscape.  Post-processed the sky separately from the foreground before bringing them both together again.  Its a 20 second exposure at 3200 ISO. Point Judith Lighthouse can be seen on the horizon.

Point Judith Lighthouse and Milky Way

This is a panorama attempt at capturing the Milky Way over the Point Judith Lighthouse.  Found out later in post-processing, that the 14 mm lens introduced too much distortion to easily stitch the panorama together.  And I could never quite straighten out the horizon to my liking.  I should have remembered that i ran into

Milky Way at Point Judith, RI

The mostly clear skies during our trip up to Massachusetts for the AT&T Hockey Tournament, didn’t help with golden hour photography, but did provide an opportunity to try some more Milky Way images. We had to endure some very early mornings at Point Judith, RI, to make the attempts.  The light pollution was still pretty

Photographer at Sunset in Beavertail State park

This is an image of Zamen taken near the Beavertail Lighthouse just after sunset.  He was up on cliff and almost silhouetted against the colorful sunset. This image may be over-saturated but I still don’t think the colors give justice to the actual view that evening.

Beavertail Lighthouse in Rhode Island

This is a sunset image, taken with a 10-stop filter, of the Beavertail Lighthouse in Jamestown, RI.  We were up there during an AT&T hockey tournament near Boston, and decided to stay a few extra days for some photography. The rainy weather provided some nice cloud cover for the sunset.  This image is a 61

DPReview – Best Photo of the Week Challenge

Entered this image of the Beavertail Lighthouse into the “Best Photo of the Week” Challenge on DPReview.  This 111 second exposure was taken during some rainy weather with a 10-stop filter.  Sepia tones added in post. The challenge can be found here.

Montauk Lighthouse and the Milky Way

This is a second version of the Montauk Lighthouse and the Milky Way from a last minute night shoot at Montauk Point.  A shooting star (and possibly a 2nd, smaller one, next to it) is seen above. Used my 24-70mm at 24mm.  It seems my 24-70 lens is sharper in the corners at 2.8 than

Milky Way over Montauk Lighthouse

With clear skies in the forecast and the moon setting early, we made a last minute decision to take a quick trip to Montauk Lighthouse to try to grab some Milky Way images.   Tried to do some Milky way images a few weeks ago in Asbury Park, but the light pollution was way too

Downtown Manhattan Pre-Sunrise

This is a view of downtown Manhattan, at about 20 minutes before sunrise, taken from across the Hudson River in Liberty State park, NJ.  The overcast clouds surprisingly took on a nice, purple-ish hue.  I used a 10-stop filter to extend the shutter speed to help smooth out the water and clouds.  This exposure ended

Empty Sky Memorial – Liberty State Park, NJ

As the sun set behind the Empty Sky Memorial, it created an amazing ring shaped reflection inside the granite pathway.  I used a 10-stop filter to try and lengthen the shutter speed, making the visitors appear ghostly in their movements.  If someone stood still, however, they would appear sharper in silhouette.

Abandoned Train Station – Liberty State Park

Visited the Liberty State Park in NJ this weekend for a quick photo shoot.  An opening in the fence line allowed us to get in and take this shot of the abandoned train terminal located there.  Applied some HDR tone mapping to bring out the textures.
